Going Through The Big D....

And I don't mean divorce.

I'm talking about diets y'all. The bad word. The word that makes me want to stay in bed with the covers pulled up to my head and sleep so I won't think about eating.

I have a weight problem. My problem with weight is that I have more than I'd like. Almost always. I'm what some people call a yo-yoer. Not that I go on yo-yo diets, but my weight fluctuates week to week, month to month, and year to year.

I have gone about a year or so at my ideal weight (non-consecutively). The first time I was going through the other Big D. Divorce for those of you who have never heard it called that. And of course I wasn't being good to my body, eating junk if I ate at all. I have to admit, at that time, food was not one of my priorities.

The second time, my personal life was strained. I tried to make myself eat but I would just get sick thinking about swallowing food. And I had become obsessed with working out and running. I remember being very happy with my weight at that time, but I know I wasn't healthy.

Then, of course, I met the man who would steal my heart forever, and the "comfort zone" started. That's when you are comfortable with the person you're with and you start eating more, exercising less.

The only difference was, I was still working out...like every day. And I joined a running group who ran 3 - 4 times a week. And I just kept gaining weight! Talk about miserable. I even tried Insanity. Which is exactly what the name means - you are insane to follow this workout regimen. It hurt my body and after 90 days, I weighed the same!!! I was so no a happy camper!

I really think I was not counting calories correctly either. I was assuming I'd burned more than I ate, when I actually was not. So the counting calories has stopped.

Not only did the calorie counting stop, the crazy workouts stopped as well. But I started following Dr. Oz's 2 week rapid weight loss plan. And I lost 8 pounds! I got so excited. And I was only working out for a total of about 20 minutes each day. Some days not even very hard.

Needless to say, I kept that diet going. I have made some changes to the breakfast. And I'm eating regularly with my family in the evenings, but I've kept the weight off. I could not be happier! I'm still working out about 20 minutes a day.

I'm not calling it a diet, more like a change in my habits. I don't really like the terms "lifestyle change". Because I'm still going to eat things I shouldn't eat, but I'm making better habits for myself and my body.

If you have a habit that is good, let me know about it! Maybe I can add it to my good habits. Let's help each other be healthier and happier!

Let's Talk About Sweets, Baby

I love chocolate! I mean LOVE it y'all!

I will eat a bug if it's covered in chocolate (I should say that it has to be sold in a store though). I have before! If I wouldn't gain weight, I'd eat chocolate everyday. Probably several times a day.

The only thing is, I don't bake. I'm not good at it. When I have tried to bake brownies in the past, they all turn out too chewy or hard.

But I don't worry. Because, here in the good ol' US of A, pretty much every grocery store, convenience store, or gas station you go into, there's some form of chocolate. Even in the health food stores!

So, if I need a sugar high, I only have to go down to nearest store and I'm all set! I love that!

My most favorite sweet treat is mint chocolate chip ice cream. Oh my gosh, that stuff is so good! And refreshing! On hot summer day, it doesn't get any better.

Where I live, south Mississippi, and where I'm from, Louisiana, they sell what we call SnoBalls. Some people call them Snow Cones. They are basically shaved or crushed ice with almost any flavor you could want. Those things are the reason why I will run at 8 p.m. during the summer too. Whether to get one after I run or to burn calories after I've had one. If you've never tried one, I suggest putting that on your bucket list.

I have to say, the best chocolate candy I've ever tried is the Nestle Quality Street Candy from the UK. I had a boss from there once and every time his wife would come back to the states from visiting their daughter, she'd bring me some. I loved it! They don't sell that kind here, but man, I almost think it's worth the shipping to order some!

So what are your favorite sweet treats? Anything I should try, that you think I'd like?

Target Beauty Box

A month or so ago, I think I was on Twitter, when I saw a tweet about a $5 Target Beauty Box. Well if you know me, you know I can't pass up a deal like that!

So I clicked the link which took me to Target.com. I signed in and I want to say it was already on the Beauty Box page. I added it to my cart, paid, and received an email letting me know the order was placed. Voila!

About a week later I received an email stating there was an issue with my order but they were working on getting it fixed. It also gave me an estimated delivery date of 3/24/14. Today is the 18th, so it came earlier than expected. I'm a happy girl!

I got home this afternoon and picked the box up; I couldn't believe how heavy it was. And like I said (if you watched my YouTube video about it) I wasn't planning on doing a video, but it calls for one. This is definitely something I will look for in the future.

The sample sizes are bigger and more full than the sample sizes I get in Birchbox. This month, I received the Jergens BB Body Cream in this box and my Birchbox. Not only is the sample from Target bigger, it is also more full of product than air. (Sorry, but Birchbox tends to send a lot of air in the tubes)

Here is the link to the Beauty Box (or you can search for Beauty Box on Target's website):

Target.com states that these boxes are not sold in stores and that they ship free. There are restrictions to the free shipping. You have to either pay with your RedCard or have an order of $50 or more on eligible items (from what I can tell). Let me know if you know of another way for free shipping.

*Not all items are sold online. Some items may only be sold online.*

Here is what I got in the box:

COVERGIRL Lipslicks Smoochies Sizzle Gloss

TONI&GUY Sea Salt Texturising Spray

Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo

Jergens BB Body Cream Light

L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

All in all, I'd say this box was worth the $5 plus shipping! And if they continue this on a monthly basis, I will definitely consider canceling my Birchbox subscription.

Tell me what you think about Target's Beauty Box!

Dig a Little Deeper - Boots Botanics Ionic Clay Mask

Last month I received the Boots Botanics Ionic Clay Mask in the Influenster J'Adore VoxBox. I was so excited to get a clay mask, I tried it that night! And I was so impressed.

When I first opened the mask, I did not shake it before, and it came out a little watery. It still made my skin feel so soft. But the next use, I shook it first and it was a perfect consistency with what I assume a clay mask to be.

This clay mask made my skin feel smoother and softer after only one use. And the feeling lasted into the next morning. It absolutely gives a spa like feel to my beauty routine.

I can not say enough good things about this product. I will definitely purchase this when I am out of the sample!

Note: I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

Won't You Be My Neighbor?

So if you've seen my YouTube channel, you probably know that I'm just a huge geek (or nerd) who just happens to like makeup. (If you have not seen my channel, please click here: http://www.youtube.com/user/wh0urGrl/videos?view=0&flow=list )

Being you, does not mean "fitting in". Being you means being who you are happy to be and doing the things you love to do. I love Star Wars. I love putting on and trying out new makeup. And so my channel is a mix of both of these things (and more!).

Recently, I was watching some other YouTubers and listening to them talking about their content. A lot of YouTubers have multiple channels for multiple reasons. I have decided not to make a second channel just to show my crafting skills (or lack thereof) and my geek/ nerd side.

While I currently only have a handful of subscribers, I am getting a lot of views. And that makes me happy. It makes me think you like the videos I am posting. And I want to keep it that way. I enjoy doing un-boxing videos and makeup reviews. And I love (so much) that I have a new way to share my love of all things geek with the world.

I hope that you enjoy my videos. And if you are watching them, please leave me comments or tweet me. If you have any suggestions or ideas, I'd love to hear them too! YouTube was made to be a community and community is about communicating and I want to be a part of that. I try to comment and like videos that I watch (and I watch a bunch!) to show the person who made and posted the video that I am there watching and enjoying their content. It's a nice, neighborly thing to do :)

So, let's be neighbors, you and I! Leave me a comment. Let me know if you liked or disliked my video (but please be nice). Invite me to view your channel, if you have one, or add me on twitter. I'm interested in your views and opinions. Whether you like Star Wars or Star Trek (personally, I like them both), motorcycles or dirt bikes, apples or oranges, I want to know what you like!

Influenster - My First Time - J'Adore VoxBox

A few months ago I started a YouTube channel. It's such an interesting community and I wanted in!

It's fun and gives me something to do while the husband plays video games.

On a video I watched, the girl mention Influenster and a VoxBox. I was intrigued! I followed her link and took a tour of the site. Soon after I signed up and started reviewing and completing tasks. And a few weeks ago I received an email stating I would be getting the J'Adore VoxBox! Can you say excited!!?

Once I received the box, I made a video about it and posted almost immediately to YouTube. I logged into Influenster and started completing the tasks requested. I'm still working on them. It is a little time consuming, but if I am able to get another box of products to try and test and review for free, who am I to complain?!

In my J'Adore VoxBox, I received the following:

Kiss Looks So Natural LashesKiss Nails@KissProducts
HERSHEY KISSES Milk ChocolateHersheys Kisses@hersheyskisses
Vaseline Men Spray LotionVaseline@VaselineBrand  #MenSpray
Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay MaskBoots Beauty USA@BootsBeautyUSA
John Frieda Frizz Ease 3-Day Straight Flat Iron SprayJohn Frieda US@JohnFriedaUS
Red Rose Simply Indulgent TeasRed Rose Tea@ShareRedRoseTea

I tried out everything, even the men's lotion! Ha! I sprayed a little spritz on video. It smells great...for a guy! I passed that along to my brother. My husband isn't one to use lotion.

I definitely loved the Hershey Kisses!! They are my favorite! Hello, my name is Melissa and I am a chocoholic.

I've tested the John Frieda Frizz Ease 3-Day Straight Flat Iron Spray and in this south Mississippi weather, it held up great!!

I also really loved the way my skin felt after using the Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask. Smooth and so soft!

And I am by no means a "tea drinker" but this tea was delicious! I added a splash of 2% milk; it was very welcome on a cold sleeting night!

All in all I have really enjoyed this box. All the products, I find, to be of high quality, full size (in some cases - huge) products.

I sincerely hope I am chosen again in the near future to receive and review another VoxBox of products!

NOTE: I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
